The best newsstory I've seen this week was the one about that CBS reporter who was stupid enough to run into a public bathroom with her microphone still on while Bush was in a Press Conference for the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Everyone heard her talking bad about her sister-in-law. Her conversation with another woman in the restroom was broadcast on national news.
The worst newscast I've seen recently is the one where they keep showing John Mark Carr in that baby blue polo shirt. It reminds me of when they executed Stanley "Tookie" Williams and all the newsstations kept showing the same shot of him in handcuffs. I hate when news does that. It shows the anchor, then a shot, then the anchor, then the same shot, and the pattern continues. It's boring. After a while, it doesn't matter what the story is about.
Darn! My post was supposed to be about local news casts. I'm far to frustrated to do it now. I'll log back on later.

I think the best newstory I've seen this week was on KITV tonight about the traffic backup because of the bridge wrecked by the tractor trailor. In that short period of time Dick Alguire was able to get the whole story. The piece had great video of the traffic backup, including ariel views of the traffic and of the damage to the bridge. He also did an interview with the Dept. of Transportation and had a really clear idea of what was going on. He explained in his standup how traffic was being rerouted and he had great interviews with people stuck in traffic. It was a thorough story.
I know that the stations do "Crimestopper" stories often, but I don't necessarily think they are the best news stories. A few of the stations covered a Blackberry theft in which two men stole 2 blackberries from a store. It's unfortunate, but there are a lot of crimes like that that happen everyday, but don't receive news coverage. The surveillance video wasn't too good either. It seemed like this story was just a filler.
